• US import tariffs

From Joseph Pereira@1:124/5016 to All on Wed Aug 20 06:16:24 2025

US import tariffs have been expanded to include 407 products, including car parts. All these items will have a 50% import duty. This will end the close cooperation between Mexico, Canada, and the US. American cars will also become much more expensive, as these parts were made in Canada and Mexico for a reason. The companies Cleveland-Cliffs (NYSE:CLF) and Nucor (NYSE:NUE) had asked the Trump administration to add these products.

Federal Appeals Court has deemed a lot of Trump's Tarrifs unconstitutional, as only congress has the authority to impose tarrifs... So a supreme court case will be forthcoming.

So three ways this can go.

    Supreme Court upholds the tarrifs.
Supreme Court strikes the tarrifs down.
Supreme Court strikes the tarrifs down, and Trump pushes congress to enact the same tarrifs.

It sure would do the market good if they were struck down, and they just go away though.

    We shall see...

I just wonder when the republican base will realize that tariffs are passed onto the consumer and are simply another tax from what used to be the party of small government.

Some of us (republican base) care more about putting a foot up the butts of the elite than we do about paying a few extra bucks for graphics cards.

Or that tarrifs and trade wars have never worked out to the bennifit of the United States. That goods manufactured in the United States if that is really the end goal are in themselves more expensive, and that we have really crossed the Rubicon with that a LONG time ago when we all started buying Japanese electronics.
