It seems like the Democrats called their Nigerian friends and said "Guys, no more phone calls. We need to make it look like our legislation was useful. So now hit those old people with some USPS scams instead!"

That doesn't ring true. I never even knew such legislation was passed,
so I doubt "vote for us because we allow fewer scam calls" will carry
much weight. Most people are on their guard for scam calls now.

Some of the legislation was signed into law: The Do Not Call Act, which "increases penalties" for scammers was useless, so then the Demcorats came up with the Traced Act, followed by the Robocop Act, which are just rewordings of the Do Not Call Act, but with different bragging rights.

But old people can't hear very well over the phone, and a ringing telephone is a red flag for anybody standing guard inside an old person's house, and I think that's why the scammers have evolved into USPS scams; it's more effective because old people tend to not use email notifications, and they have a regimen of going out and getting the mail, and reviewing it.

Maybe it was just coincidence and a critical mass of people are on guard for scam calls that the call centers simply shut down due to lack of morons to fall for their scams.

That sounds likely.

Ahhh.. the usual "look like we are doing something" scam. They've tried that one before.

They make amplified phones for old people. My mom has one. It's the only way she can talk on the phone.

But she long ago got into a habit of saying "I can't understand you." and hanging up.

Possible. But mail scams are harder because the person has time to think and review.

And probably already gets lots of junk mail, so the scam ends up in the bin with the rest of the junk mail.

Ahhh.. the usual "look like we are doing something" scam. They've
tried that one before.

It works for them from time to time. The other part of the game is where they make it sound like if you're not for it then you're part of the problem.

I like how my dad don't take the calls and has me (or tries to have me) handle all his business-related calls. He's a great guy because he sees the good in people, but unfortunately he don't see the bad.

I don't think that part of the game is going to work very well anymore.

Ya, it's a mindset. It's hard to be in the "happy medium" there because you have to pay attention, think, etc. Most people don't want to bother with that and just enjoy their lives.
